Ground Source Heat Loops can be installed with 2.5”, 3.5”, 4.0” and 5.0” casing depending on the loop diameters and the depth requirements for each borehole. Unlike other drilling techniques, sonic facilitates drilling while casing the borehole. This can eliminate borehole collapse and also does not compromise the integrity of the borehole with the introduction of high volume air or mud. Borehole compaction aids in conductivity as the formation is typically displaced into the borehole walls. Drop off tips, expendable cones, knock off bits can all be used as single use drill bits allowing the casing to reach the targeted depth, install the loop, add the grout and vibrate back out leaving a clean well completion.
Environmental Sampling and Groundwater Well Installations can utilize our dual tube systems. We typically provide a 2”x4”, 3”x5” and 4”x6” packages. The first tooling size represents the core barrel diameter and the second size is the over-ride casing. these are nominal sizes and exact dimension can be found in our “Down-Hole Tooling” section. Smaller inner rods typically 2.5” or 3” in outer diameter are used to attach to the core barrel, 2”, 3” or 4” in diameter while a flush or minor upset casing is washed or vibrated over the core barrel casing the borehole. The core barrels are extracted using the drill head or wire-line winch. The casing remains in the formation until the final targeted depth is reached whereby the operator can set a well or grout to complete the borehole.
Core Sampling using the Aqua-Lock sampler facilitates fantastic core collection in a variety of conditions typically difficult to collect with standard techniques. The Aqua-Lock is available in 2” and 3” core barrels and is a piston sampler. The barrels are made of stainless steel and are comprised of a valve operated drive head, internal floating piston and a host of cutting shoes for differing lithologic conditions. Cores are extruded into PVC liners, polyethylene bags or a core box for examination. This is the tool of choice in un-consolidated formations where recovery is critical. Ideal for mine tailings, site investigations, marine sediments, leach ponds and more.
Seismic Shot Hole Drilling is fast and efficient with sonic in the overburden and collapsing formations. High production is key and drilling with small diameter casing and a drop off tip are the most efficient methods. Casing typically run includes 63mm (2.5”), 88mm, (3.5”), or 100mm, (4.”). All sizes have expendable tips available. Should one encounter large gravels or rocks then bits used include finger, drag, chevron, open face, full face and more.
Geo-Construction with Sonic improves overall on-site production by maximizing the footage drilled per day. Whether micro-piles, tie-backs, soil nails, or injection grouting the sonic technology will drill faster in the un-consolidated formations than other techniques. Hollow bar installations can be completed with our drill and grout systems using star bits or lost cones in most formations. Tooling sizes range from 2.5” injection rods to 8” outside diameter casing for micro-piles. See the “Down-Hole Tooling” Section for details.
Mineral Sampling and Exploration can be accomplished with sonic usually in the softer rock or tailings piles. Specialty samplers like the Aqua-Lock or the “dual-Tube” methods are ideal for core recovery and sampling. Core barrels range from 2” to 6” and can be selected based on the geology and consistency of the formation. |
